What are we doing?
Over 15,000 registered veterinary surgeons and 18,000 veterinary nurses and veterinary care assistants work in over 5,000 UK veterinary practices treating 8 million dogs and 6 million cats, 500, 000 horses and 4 million cattle.
No actively-managed database exists about who works where and how many people work in which practice. This is valuable information to suppliers to veterinary practices who want to know how to allocate their resources most efficiently.
What can we achieve with this information?
The mental health situation has never been worse in the industry and precious few resources appear to be available to tackle it.
UKVets.org belives that we can fund vital support for the veterinary community by sharing our data in a secure and useful way to raise funds that can:
By the end of 2025, to have trained a mental health first aider in every veterinary practice in the UK.
Actively support existing charities such as Vetlife, VBS and WellVet.
Fund research into key areas to improve in the veterinary workplace
